When Meetings Multiply

“How many meetings occur in which someone in the meeting was sending emails during the meeting? I know you have never done that…”

In this flash talk from the 2018 Future Assembly, Professor Jeff Polzer explores the nature of collaboration and whether too much of it negatively affects productivity. Using digital trace data (e.g. calendar and email metadata) to analyze firm activity at scale, Polzer seeks to understand how organizations can tap the benefits of collaboration while avoiding overload. Is it possible to optimize the amount of collaboration in relation to organizational productivity?
