The Future of Media Lab has formally concluded its activities at the Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard (D^3) as of July 1, 2025.

The Future of Media Lab emerged as a hub for creativity and collaboration in response to the media and entertainment sector grappling with continuous waves of digital disruption, reshaping its creative landscape. These disruptions spurred fresh approaches and growth while overturning traditional models. Digital technologies influenced content creation, audience habits, business strategies, and revenue streams, and had pervasive societal impact through their effect on information, trust, and democracy.

The Future of Media lab collaborated with other D^3 Labs and drew upon a diverse community of students, faculty, and practitioners to address challenges and opportunities in media and entertainment. It pioneered new business models and created products and services that simultaneously served consumer needs and the public interest.
