Interesting how Nordstrom is reimagining the customer experience. Nordstrom’s greatest competitive advantage is its impeccable and very personalized customer service – it will be interesting to see how they can maintain this level of service with less face-to-face customer interaction.
Fascinating issue, Peter. It is amazing (but not surprising really) how many traffic accidents are caused by human error. But even if driverless cars can reduce this number significantly, I still think that society will be very reluctant to adopt this technology. The idea of giving up control, even if we know it would be statistically safer, is still a significant hurdle for people to overcome. Does Uber intend to own a fleet of self driving cars, or do they merely intend to provide a platform to connect cars to passengers like they do now?
Amazing how GoPro has managed to stay relevant given the fate of digital cameras, especially given their seemingly small target market. But given the rapid development of the video capabilities of smartphones, I’m very concerned that GoPro won’t be able to maintain their position as the go-to camera for adventure seekers. Perhaps the best way for GoPro to differentiate itself is to provide easy to use video editing.
I learned what a dongle is from this article! I was not at all surprised to learn that my hometown of Phoenix has the most aggressive drivers – it is pretty frightening.
$129 seems pretty high for this product for the individual consumer segment of the market – I’m not sure many people would really care for this information, especially since it does not give real-time data. I also wonder if it would encourage people to drive more recklessly. Seems like the insurance or trucking industry as you said would be a better target market.
Very interesting post Aakash. I didn’t know that reducing food waste was part of Blue Apron’s value proposition. I also never suspected that their distribution method decreased the carbon footprint. I would have guessed that they would have a large carbon footprint since they’re delivering just one meal at a time (not to mention all the packaging waste). Perhaps they could do a better job promoting these aspects of their business.
Love that Olympia One Arrival – did a few touch and go’s at Boeing Field and Paine Field. It will be really interesting to see how far biofuels can go. Biofuels can be blended with conventional fuels, and when used normally only make up about 1% of the total fuel. Given how much fuel the aviation industry consumes, I wonder how much biofuel production can be scaled up to address the demand.
Wow I am a [dumb] pilot and didn’t know that climate change was increasing speeds of jet streams – wouldn’t this also have the effect of reducing the travel times (and costs) of some flights as well? Love some good tail winds.
Also loved the point about hot air – definitely makes flying more challenging and increases the energy required. When operating in HOT environments I have had to abort many takeoffs because the engines indicated they were overheating. Certainly a “hot” topic.
Great post coach! – I had no idea that Nike had these initiatives in place. It was great to hear that Fly Knit is so sustainable – I wouldn’t have guessed that because it is such a quality product that fits and feels great. It goes to show that you don’t always have to compromise. Innovation can create products that are both more functional and more sustainable.
Nike endorses the most dominant and iconic athletes – it would be great to see one of them promote this sustainable image.
This issue is certainly very critical from a national security perspective. But so far some of the Navy’s attempts to reduce carbon emissions have not been robust. This year, the Navy had hoped to operate a Great Green Fleet, a Carrier Strike Group composed of various ships and aircraft running on nuclear power and biofuel. A few of the ships operated on a blend of 10% biofuel and 90% conventional fossil fuel, and use of biofuels in Navy aircraft has been even more limited. It will be interesting to see whether this is a serious initiative, or just an empty gesture.
