Thank you for this post, Daniel. I’m very impressed by the atypical business model they currently use and by the benefit that openness provides. I’m very curious to see if they’ll be able to maintain it in the long run and if they’ll resist possible acquisitions

Thank you for your post Sutton. This is so promising but I agree with you on the challenges related to the privacy of data. I wonder if Gong and its competitors have made different decisions to address these challenges. Also, do you believe this can be a critical element for differentiation and success in this market?

Thank you for this post Alex. It’s so interesting to see how Etsy managed to improve the search experience of buyers in a market where categorization is so difficult. Also, this approach can be very beneficial for “niche” creative sellers, who otherwise might struggle to find the right audience for their products

On March 28, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Transit-ing Big Data :

Thank you for the post, Kevin. Undoubtedly value capture still represents a problem. The limited audience that transit royale is likely to have seems to represent a barrier to a significant increase in revenues. I was wondering if additional revenue streams could be added by introducing new features in the app. As you mentioned, Transit is particularly valuable for tourists. Transit might add additional features for trip planning (suggestions, recommendations) and have an additional revenue stream by partnering with local attractions (museums, restaurants)

On March 27, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Spotify – How data is used to enhance your listening experience. :

Thank you for the post, Alan. I believe the patent for the voice recognition technology is both promising and concerning. From Spotify’s perspective, it can significantly help tailor the content suggested to users. Nevertheless, I believe it could give Spotify too much power to influence the emotional state of the user. Spotify could have an incentive to manipulate the user’s emotions to encourage them to continue listening to content on the platform. This could imply playing on a person’s depressive state to keep them listening to content that can further deteriorate that emotional state.

On March 26, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Starbucks – The best customers in the world? :

Thank you for the post, Chris. Undoubtedly this program helped the company to learn more about its customers. I am curious to learn if Starbucks has leveraged the insights generated from the data to provide localized products, deals and services and if this has already contributed to the capture of a larger share of customers

On March 26, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Zillow: Addressing the Online Real-Estate Market :

Thank you for the post, Daniel. While reading it, I was wondering how Zillow tried to diversify the sources of its data to reduce the dependance on the MLS that are currently used. As you mentioned in the post, creating a unique mix of datasource can represent a significant competitive advantage.

On March 6, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Glassdoor: Viewing the Workplace Differently :

Thank you for the post Heili! It was so interesting to learn how Glassdoor managed to protect data integrity through a two-step model. It would be also interesting to know what minor changes were introduced in the recently acquired companies to align them more with Glassdoor’s commitment to transparency and trust

On March 6, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Substack: Raising Up Newsletters to Business Relevance :

Hello Daniel! Thank you for this post. I agree with your concerns about Substack’s sustainability. I also believe that the lack of a network effect is particularly harmful to those newcomers without a large following. If you don’t have a following, Substack won’t help you grow one. On the other hand, Medium’s contents have the potential to get distributed widely among the community because users can easily read recommendations. Do you think Substack can adopt a similar model?

On March 6, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Ethereum – A Decentralized and Open-Source Super Platform :

Hello Maxwell! Thank you for this piece. I agree with you when you said that the transition toward PoS can significantly improve scalability. With the current PoW, I believe the potential of the network effect is not fully exploited because of congestion. Once the number of users and transactions gets large, it takes longer on average for transactions to get validated and the network effect between users can turn negative

On February 13, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on Discord – Your Place to Talk :

Thank you for your post. It’s interesting to learn that multiple companies originally focused on the gaming sector broadened their targeted audience. Twitch is probably one of the most famous examples, having successfully expanded its streaming services to include content dedicated to artwork creation, music, talk shows.

On February 13, 2022, Sebastiano Sorbello commented on The Rocket Doctor will See You :

Thank you for your piece. You touched on an essential point for the expansion of digital health services: the provider’s engagement. Nevertheless, many services mainly focus on patient experience in order to capture the high demand generated following the pandemic. I believe that the companies that will succeed in this market will be those that will actively engage clinicians, by providing them a set of integrated services for their practice. An interesting evolution of this concept is “Hospital at home”, a model that enables providers to shift acute care from hospital to patients’ home through a combination of telehealth, remote monitoring technologies, and diagnostics services.

Thank you for this wonderful piece, Sutton. Looking back on my experience in Italy at the beginning of the pandemic, I realize that an app like the one developed by HEB could have significantly helped thousands of families in my country. Unfortunately, few players in the marketplace had the capacity of delivering orders timely when the demand increased dramatically. I’m really curious to see how this service will evolve over the next few years, especially as competitors complete the development of their platforms.
