Kevin – great post. It’s amazing to me that WeChat has integrated so many different functions in one app! I was also surprised by the fact that local businesses can setup their own online stores. My global partner, a recycling company in Chengdu, actually has an online shop where customers go to buy cleaning products and other household items using points they earn by recycling. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your great comment Rebecca. From the reports I’ve read, the companies seem to have very similar corporate cultures. Of course, the companies have incentive to make that argument, yet I find it pretty believable considering that both are reasonably larger multinationals and operate in very similar businesses. I expect we’ll see Ball extending its own processes and culture. Let’s just hope they are effective “change agents”!

Interesting submission! I understand the arguments for lack of expansion east but even in markets they’ve identified as attractive they seem to be moving slow. For example, Houston is much less than 600 miles from the DFW area. They’ve been in Texas for several years but still no Houston location. There’s cows everywhere. I don’t get it.

Great post. Panera seems to be out on the forefront of innovation in the dining room. It’s going to be interesting to see how much this industry changes with the introduction of automation/tech over the next few years. To Tara’s point, how defensible are some of these more recent operational advantages?
