Great post, Mark. I think Buzzfeed has done a phenomenal job in leveraging the viral model of content sharing, and I’ve certainly fallen victim to my share of clickbait. What I didn’t realize, though, was that Buzzfeed even dabbled in more serious, longform content – and this seems to be the case for quite a few commenters here. This makes me wonder whether Buzzfeed will ever be able to be viewed as a legitimate source of reputable news and information. The image of Buzzfeed in my mind is a more frivolous, “fluff” site – something that might be hard to reconcile with the notion of a serious media site. I’ll be interested to see if Buzzfeed sticks around and manages to play that dual role in the future.
Great post! I’ll be taking my first Singapore Airlines flight over winter break for FIELD, and have heard great things about the airline. I love to hear about an airline that isn’t sacrificing customer satisfaction in the name of being a “low cost carrier”. With so many airlines grappling with the question of how to be profitable in such a competitive industry, it’s fascinating to see that Singapore Airlines hasn’t resorted to some of the “easiest” tradeoffs to make. I hope to see that this model is sustainable in the long term, and that perhaps some of SIA’s tactics will start to become more of a norm in the industry.
Great post! I used to live down the street from the original Whole Foods in Austin, and was always fascinated by how that location is almost more of a community gathering place than just a grocery store. In general, I think Whole Foods has done a great job creating this consistent feel in all of its locations, even as it’s expanded across the country. Despite being a national chain, it retains some elements of being a “local” market, and I think this drives a lot of the customer loyalty it sees. I think the company has a great value proposition, and clearly the different elements of its operating model work together seamlessly in support of that. I’m a big fan of the company, and big fan of your post!
