Great post, Wendy! Fascinating to learn how SIA keeps its overall operating / maintenance costs low by having a very young fleet. It is also pretty cool that SIA has such strong bargaining power to get significant discounts on purchasing planes. I would have thought that the savings on maintenance and operating costs would have paled in comparison to the costs of continuing to refresh the fleet, but it looks like my intuition was wrong!

Great post! I would be interested to learn more about the 95% private label products and customer’s perception of quality. Current customers could be swayed to pay more for products by going to another more traditional grocery store if customer standards of quality are not met by Aldi (and therefore customers are not willing to bag their own groceries or bring a quarter for their checkout cart when they shop).

Great post! Really like the connection between the operating model of the RC Section experience and other social experiences that HBS intentionally creates / supports and their business model of alumni donations. Astute observation!
