Great article Nicolas. I think a big loser in this industry are the insurance agents. I think the main reason they are being disintermediated even by their own companies is because they have failed to add value to their clients. Insurance agents should be able to provide clear explanations about the different products and be able to make a recommendation based on the clients needs. In many cases the agent is driven by commission to suggest more expensive insurance. In other cases they are no where to be found when the customer needs to make a claim. In the worst cases they have misinformed the client about what their insurance covers.
If digital sales can provide the information necessary to a customer in a way they can easily understand it there will soon be no insurance agents left.
I wonder if the real losers here are not the upscale swiss watches but the more mid tier types of watches that come from al over the world. Although it seems the most expensive watches have decreased theirir sales I wonder if this could be cuased by something else. I think given the price range of the iWatch it is not competing with the most expensive watches that are 6x or more qhat an iwatch costs.
As a Rent the Runway user I can say they have a great service! They truly want to make sure their clients find the perfect outfit for each occasion. There is a lot of similar in the market but I feel they truly differentiate themselves by excelling in service quality.
The Dark Litchen concept is extremely interesting. I think delivery apps should definetly make use of their data to develop concepts to better serve their customers. I also think a dark kitchen benefits from huge cost efficiencies in real estate and work force costs making it an ultra profitable food production. I have two concerns about dark kitchens. 1) how will restaurants that are on the apps react to Thai new form of competition? Similar to amazon selling trending items directly this might upset the suppliers in the platform. 2) will consumers choose a brand they don’t know? I wonder how open consumers are to ordering thins they’ve never had before form an unknown brand.
Hi Nicolas, this is very interesting. It has made me think what their strategy going forward might be now that they have been acquired by such a big company as Walmart. Being part of Walmart gives them a great advantage over competitors because of the financial capital that becomes available to them. At the same time, being owned by Walmart might limit their capacity of expanding their partnerships with other retail chains or living into countries where there is no Walmart. I also wonder if the acquisition has somehow generated more value for users.
